Up to what age do most schools hire ESL teachers? It looks like over 55 is out.

It varies widely from country to country. Do you have some place specific you want to work? I don�t think there is much of an age limit in Latin America, usually by the time they see your paperwork you are already hired, but more often then not they don�t ask your age before the interview. I have worked in Guatemala and Mexico and have always worked with teachers with a wide range of ages. |

It really depends. I know that there are some posters older than that in China. Mexico as well. |

I have seen a good number of job ads from China that list 60 as their hiring limit. |

Some countries including China systematically discriminate in this way. Others such as Russia depend more on the judgement of the employer. As you'll find in the Russian and Ukrainian threads, many mature applicants find jobs in CIS. |
