Hello all,
I wanted to give a brief summary of my situation, hoping to find a good starting point in China. I am 24 and my wife is 27. We both have our TESOL through GlobalTesol college, which I know is not the best certification. My wife has her B.S. in English Ed, and I will be getting my B.S. in English in August. My wife has been working in an elementary school for the past three years, and I have worked two years at a preschool, and spent a year substitute teaching off and on in each grade.
So, without post graduate teaching experience for myself, I've been told that the top tier cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen could not consider me (according to the recruiter). OK, fair enough...so where should I start?
A few more specifics about us, if it helps with a recommendation. We live in South Dakota, so relocating to somewhere on the other side of the globe at the same distance from the equator doesn't sound that enticing. Can't say we want to live in any place described as a furnace either. We've both done our fair share of partying and gotten that out of our system, so we do not care about the bar/club scene. Outdoor scenery and parks/trails are much more important to us than nightlife.
If you have any recommendations for a city and/or province or school, I would love to see it. I can't say how easy it is to get caught reading only horror stories on these threads, and I know that this world contains more than that. We are both very easy-going, adaptable, people who are looking to experience somewhere new for a while before settling completely down. That's the plan for now anyways.
Thanks in advance for advice, and thanks to this website for allowing the discussion space.
