Has anyone done their CELTA at ECC Bangkok? They seem to be the cheapest around at $1400 USD and run courses every month. Unfortunately I can't teach in Thailand since I don't have a degree (3 1/2 years of engineering don't equal a BA - lol it should equal 3 )
Still, Cambodia and Nepal aren't far off |

I did my CELTA there last August, but it feels like a couple weeks ago. How time flies
Their price is good, but I've seen lower quotes on this forum. The biggest plus is that you can be in Thailand! Although I was swamped with work, that month was one of the best I've had! The amazing Thai food, relaxing climate, friendly people, great students, awesome co-workers and other parts about BKK were a blast. I highly recommend it.
Just a wee heads-up if you do this, the CELTA trainers at ECC have a reputation for being somewhat unfriendly. I found this to be true, but they also gave solid, air-tight advice and feedback for lesson delivery and overall professional development.

Interesting, although I met colleagues who did the course without a degree. One worked in Phuket for a while before.
However, I hear the Thaksin government is cracking down on foreigners with an iron fist. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they increased the entry requirements to teach and/or upped the work permit regulations. Possibly a minimum bank balance or something like that.
It's worth keeping in tuned to see what happens next.

Sounds like a solid recommendation.
I was actually planning on doing the CELTA here in AU before heading off, but it's hard to argue with a $700AUD saving, although from what I gather, staying in AU hostels and self catering costs about the same as staying in Bangkok (but eating street food).
Our economy must be really stuffed. According to the Lonely Planet website there are only one or two countries in South America and Eastern Europe that are significantly cheaper to travel in than AU, and the silly sounding $700-1000 USD ESL salaries aren't that bad compared to what we get here for similar hours outside the major cities. I'm doing temp work in a hick town at present and for 100 hours a month I would get about $1200 USD - lol Pretty funny considering the dole is about $800 USD a month The dole isn't very interesting but the hours are good |
