Hi all!
CELTA, BA, LLB [post grad in law] and 10 years' business experience. However, the doors seem shut for someone with a SA passport. Any advice would be appreciated. I am passionate about teaching and travel - so this is not about earning some enormous salary.
Thanks!

You can teach in Mexico but you will need to get a travel visa at the Mexican embassy or consulate in South Africa before arriving. You then process a work visa from within Mexico. |

Korea accepts SAFFERs for ESL teachers. Pay is decent for newbies and there are lots of jobs.
Go register on the Korean boards. http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/index.php

Europe's problematic for those with SA passports - as it is for US, Canada, and NZ citizens as well.
Is Europe the 'closed door' referred to? |

Regarding working in Mexico, I have a friend from South Africa who has been working here for about a year at IH. |

I've known a few people from South Africa who were teaching in Japan and Singapore, so I don't think those are closed doors. |

To the original poster. Europe, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are problematic for those without QTS. However there is a long list of countries that will accept South Africans . South African teachers are more often than not, grouped together with Americans, Canadians, Australians and teachers from New Zealand, Ireland and from the UK when it comes to advertised ESL job positions. |
