Hi
I've not yet arrived but curious as to whether -
there is time to do much travelling in Turkey as a teacher?
What is the best way to get around - bus, train, other?
And what do tickets generally cost, say from Istanbul to Antalya, for example.
Just to be clear, I *did* run a search and got something like 1694 results,
so thought it might be quicker to ask 3 related Qs.
Many thanks

It really depends on what kind of job you have. If you're working at a regular school, you'll have most of the Turkish holidays off. Big ones will be Kurban Bayram and Winter Break. If you work at a language school, you may be able to arrange time off. There are a few shorter 3 day weekends in the fall where you can do short trips to the black sea region or Cappadocia.

This will vary, but all are generally reliable. If you live in Istanbul, there's a huge mishmash of a system that will take several years to master.

There's quite a few lowcost airlines flying out of Istanbul - atlas jet, anadolu jet, pegasus, onur airlines, etc. You can often score cheap flights around Turkey for as little as 70TL one way, which often may be cheaper than the bus and save you a lot of time. The buses are good here and usually run over night so you can save on a hotel if you can manage to sleep.
This is a great site for getting around Turkey -- http://turkeytravelplanner.com/ |

Thanks Wardaw
So regular schools are best in terms of down time?
Does this mean their salaries are that much lower than say universities?
It would be great to have the time to do a train trip once in a while,
