|

Hello everyone!
My boyfriend and I are thinking of going to Japan next fall (2012) to do a photo essay about the north Japan eartquake/tsunami. We thought maybe we'd be able to get teaching jobs to support ourselves while we were living there.
We both have Bachelors degrees, and I am planning to get a Masters in Second Language Teaching (hopefully done by fall next year).
My question is, how easy is it to get jobs in the same location? We wouldn't need to teach at the same school, but at least be able to get an apartment together. Also, the locale would have to be close to the area affected by the earthquake, like Sendai.
Let me know what you think -- advise of any kind is appreciated! |

Please do a search on the forums. Asking about situations for couples has been asked and answered a lot.
So, you're coming for a short-term photo shoot and think you can find work during that short term, is that right? If so, the answer is no. You will have to accept a contract for a year minimum.
"How easy..." is a question I don't like answering because there is no real way to answer it. Finding work here nowadays is tough even without the restrictions you place on it.
By the way, when do you plan to find/make time for the photo shoot if you land jobs that have you working 6 days a week (a possibility)? |

Yes, I was afraid somebody would say that
I'm a little new to using forums, and un-skilled at doing searches --- but I will try again.
We are planning to be there for a year or more. It is sort of a pipe dream, and who knows if we will be able to do it; but we really want to come back to Japan. My first step was finding out how difficult it would be, realistically, before we start applying for jobs. |

Finding work as a couple is possible. The big companies (AEON, etc.) will try to find two positions in the same area (probably not the same school). The smaller schools may have two openings at the same time. I have seen ads here that specifically were looking for a couple. |
