I'm using this book with a class that really are too old for it, the book is aimed at 10-12 year olds, my class is 14-16. If that wasnt bad enough, the book is unbelievably repetitive. Each module follows exactly the same pattern of activities, just with different vocab and grammar. The activities are literally identical: for example the first page of each 6-page module is ALWAYS:, reading, true or false activity, match definitions activity, then some general discussion question.
Anyone used it and have any ideas on how to make it not so boring? |

I have used Oxford Heroes, both elementary and pre-intermediate, with 2 groups and I agree with what you say. I found that the elementary book was too young even for my group of 10-12 year olds. I also found that I needed to use a lot of supplementary materials to reinforce any new grammar as the exercises provided in the books were insufficient.
Sorry to be negative but the only way I found to reduce the boredom was to use the book as little as possible and rely on supplementary materials/activities. |
