It never ceases to amaze me how many fly by night recruiting agencies are springing up. This one wants us to sign a 48hr work week...plus at least 30 contact hours per week!
Slavery! Are these European standards? My word! Who'd accept that?
It looks to me like the KSA is going to get desperate to lure ESL teachers there...with all the turmoil in the region.
Soooo, I'd suggest to wait for something better than what these guys are offering. |

KSA's been desperate for years. They just won't admit it, so they don't change their attitude. Consequently, the desperation factor increases. Again, they won't admit it, blah, blah, blah.
There are a few good gigs there...ARAMCO direct hires (though their recruitment process sucks), BAE (though I don't think their mgt knows what the hell they're doing on site), and Booz-Allen (though they've been known to lose a contract and lay off employees), to name a few of the few.
Yeah, definitely avoid a gig requiring 48-hr weeks and 30 contact periods. Life in KSA prison is hard enough.

I'm embarrassed to say that I worked for a school elsewhere in the Middle East (Kurdistan, N. Iraq) that required 30 contact hours initially (not including the extra hours required to do some exams) and close to 40 official hours which often stretched into 60 with grading and preparation.
I heard recently that they are extending the "30 contact hours" to 32 in their contracts. Protest was useless as they twisted everything around to make it seem like they were doing you a favor to only make you teach for 30 since each class was less than an hour and therefore they could make it up in other ways, and that giving individual oral exams was not "contact"!
What is an acceptable schedule? |

I would hope all new teachers would try to negotiate 20 contact hours(periods), 10 office hours and 10 prep hours.
Good you left that last gig! Yikes! Good luck.
