Here's the offer: http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=23530

The part about the "world famous disney" sounds like bull...but the package doesn't sound that bad....if it's legit. What do you think?

Disney English is real - I did an interview with them once, their total offer came out to about 16-17k , but I didnt get the job as most of my teaching experience is with adults. Expect to be working all of sat + sun, and 3 evenings during the week. It works out to be about the same if you had a low paying job, then work part-time to double your income.

But I refuse to dress up as a Disney Character and put on shows all day while teaching 3-6 year old kids through song and dance.

errr.. they never mentioned anything about dressing up as a Disney characters. You do shows videos and sing songs, and teach via a smart board.

Many aspects of Disney have been dealt with on Dave's and the normal caveats of working for a chain, where some schools are company owned and some are franchises, apply English First would be a good alternative example.

I perceive the Disney org as being quite anal about the use and representation of its creative properties, so company supervision of franchises may be better than others which dont seem to be held to account as much.

I read somewhere (Forbes?) that Disney see Disney English as a loss maker but a vehicle that gives penetration into an increasingly wealthy sector. Loss being relative as I dont see a Chinese business person investing in something that isnt going to pay off almost immediately.

Because the lesson content and approach are so aligned to Disney characters, they appear to require teachers to go through paid training before going 'live'.

Given the age of the target market I think you really need to ask yourself about your own teaching interests before going further. That said the available openings that Im currently seeing advertised are language schools, which will be very busy in July/August.

I think the comment made by another poster about effective hourly rate is a good one.

Disney expansion plans are impressive (again from Forbes?) and getting in now may set you up for managerial opportunities later. Their localities right now are limited but intensive, which indicates someone has done a population to school calculation which if carried through as wealth penetrates further inland would mean a mega presence in a few years.

BTW I have no direct connection with Disney but franchised business models work well if managed closely.
