How do you access it?
I've been teaching in the private sector for the last 2 years and since the recent visa changes I'm pretty certain it's heading towards painful times.
I have heard good (and bad) things about working in ESOL but can't seem to find any real job offers about. |

Go to your nearest FE college -drop your CV in and if they like it they will probably do an informal interview, then offer agency work of several hours/week, then if your timing is good you might get the chance of contract work, although I have to say that the private sector pain is also ESOL's -funding is going down the pan, the hoops are getting narrower and higher, and the administration, always proving you're doing what you do, is simply too much. |

Although funding for ESOL in England is descreasing (or changing) this will allow for opportunities to volunteer. |

I have never heard of anyone doing volunteer EFLing except maybe for a very good friend. |

Well I do it ! One student on a 1-2-1 basis. Twice a week.
I expect my reward when I arrive at the Pearly Gates. |

You must not spend much time reading the ads on job boards. (Lucky you, Sophie!) There are many, many ads for volunteer teachers, particularly in such places as Latin America, Nepal, Tibet, Africa. A few in Palestine. Some offer housing, a few offer a stipend, but many offer neither. And many actually ask you to pay for the privilege of volunteering. |

i-to-i.com advertise this, something like paying 1500 for the privilege of paying to teach for free in Peru or China. Any idiot could go over there and teach for a modest wage or free if they wanted. Unless companies can block people doing voluntary work without signing up which maybe true in some areas? Although sounds like something panorama would follow up. |

10 pounds an hour self-employed at one place in Nottingham (checked).
Minimum wage at one place in Surrey (advertised).
Suddenly, PTLLS means more than an MA.
That's the sum of it. |
