I know that this is a much repeated topic, but I was hoping to get some advice more tailored to me...
I really want to go to China to teach oral English, but can't go until December time. Is it best to start looking around and applying now, or should I wait until closer to the time?
Also, I'm undecided as to whether to apply for jobs in Shanghai, or go for somewhere more rural... Any suggestions or advice??
Another question - I was looking at the Kidcastle website and it sounds pretty good - has anyone had any experience of the company?? |

Hi
I am living and teaching in Zhangjiagang (3 hours northwest of Shanghai).
I prefer the rural areas to the big Cities, but that is mainly because I am not young. I presume you are young and therefore you would probably be better off in a City like Shanghai where there is more nightlife and also more foreign teachers to meet up with.
The Schools usually do not like applications too early. 2 - 3 month at the most ahead of when you want to work. The new Semester commences around the beginning of September, so if they employ you from December, they have to pay you two months salary - for the winter holidays and that may not appeal to them. You may be better off starting with the new semester in early to mid February.
If you would like any more information please P.M. me with your email address. I have only lived here for 8 months but I do know a little. |
