My interview has been cleared as an adjunct faculty member.
Any information about adunjct faculty at Zayed University Abu dhabi New Campus.
How many hours usually adjunct faculty members teach in a week?
What kind of facilities they can avail?
Please, share any news, information and opinion regarding Adjunct faculty and New Campus of Zayed University Abu Dhabi.
Thanks in advance. |

If you are being hired as an adjunct, that presumes that you are already in Abu Dhabi... right? The best source for the number of hours that they are expecting you to work is to call them and ask. I also assume that you are not teaching EFL, so the answers that you receive here may not be accurate for your department.
ZU has a good reputation as an employer - but I am always sorry to hear that any institution is using adjuncts. That just means that they are getting teachers on the cheap... by screwing them out of pay and benefits.

Do you know what an adjunct at ZU makes?
You don't get the benefits but the hourly rate is more than a PHD would make in the UK at a university.
The pole has been highered (limbo) so you don't even need the much vaunted (vaulted for the high jump) MA! |

You would still need to be there with a spouse who has a benefits package what with the high rental costs. It damn well better be high since you get no sick days or paid holidays or summer leave or tickets or medical or gratuity...

My husband is getting all benefits. I knew its hard and painful without vacation pay and sick leave. |

If your husband has a full benefit package, then an adjunct position could work fine for you. The hourly pay will add nicely to your income.
I apologize that none of us has actually answered your questions. But, I do feel confident enough of ZU's reputation to encourage anyone that gets an offer from them to accept it if it works for them.

The new campus will have all the latest tech incl smart boards. Contact hours in the ESL program are normally 20 contact hrs. Other departments depend on the teaching/research load. Adjuncts are due to the usual spending freeze. |

Does this mean that there are no new foreign hires this year? Or will they only give full contracts to replace someone who left?

I don't think so, because ZU advertised full time positions on their website. |

Love watching "enshallah" evolve into "yallah yallah...."
The august scramble is wildly entertaining.
(even more so, since they leave HR to the Indians and Egyptians) |

Well, I don't know. Do you think we'll see much activity this year since the entire month of August is Ramadan? The scramble might be delayed until September.
What do ya think, folks?

The main predictor of work-load for teachers in the UAE is seats approved by NAPO (the national placement office).
NAPO has the below announcement:
Quote: |
Dear student, we regret to inform you that the Signing Ceremony, to approve admissions to UAEU, HCT, ZU, and Scholarships, has been postponed. We will notify you as soon as the new date has been confirmed. |
My guess --- the institutions are arguing over how many students they have the capacity for ---- which has delayed recruiting, as well as signing ceremonies.
Since the schools don't really know what their funding will be - they don't know how many students to admit, or how many faculty to hire (which is why things are moving slow, right now).
Chances are - the Sheikh will get irritated with the delay in the ceremony (and with all the families showing up in his majlis, complaining).
It's kind of whacky not knowing your status --- all the way into August....
That's where enshallah comes into play, I suppose. |

You...you, mean that everything isn't coming up roses for one of the most notorious confidence games in the world???
On a more somber note, I wonder how those on leave at the moment are feeling right about now? That's right, Tubby, without your cadre of IT snoops, there's no way you can determine and sanction your employees who are actually concerned if they are caught in the whirlpool of the loo that you continue to flush!
