Posted: Tue Dec 20, 2005 1:32 pm Post subject: teaching university business classes Offer Questions |
|
|
I've got an offer to teach business classes in a university in Beijing. I have an MBA and I'm so happy that I'll finally be able to use it teaching something besides just English! The contract I've seen doesn't include hours or pay... they're still deciding what class(es) I'll be teaching in the spring semester. My questions for the forum:
What kind of salary should I get?
What kind of hours should I expect to be working?
In addition to the on-campus housing and the health insurance, is there anything else I should particularly be demanding in terms of benefits? |

Minimum 5500 yuan per month (since you are not going to teach oral English but an academic subject) for 14 to maybe 16 hours a week.
Don't expect many favours; just make sure your situation is going to be above board, which would mean airfare included (one way), visa costs taken care of by employer; adequate holiday provisions (paid holidays except during summer holidays). |

Hi there,
Beijing universities actually pay a bit less than the average 4000rmb/month for 16 periods per week. It's almost a privilege to work at some of the better ones.
Even with an MBA, you're looking at an average monthly salary of 4000 to 5000 RMB for 16 to 20 periods a week. Housing is included in 99.9% of the cases. You definitely want them to take care of the accommodations because rent in Beijing can be pretty darn high.
good luck |

For this current school year I had an offer of 6,000 RMB from Beijing Bei Hang University for 18 periods per week; no pay for July & August. I didn't accept because I decided Beijing is too cold for me during winter.

Dear XXXX,
How are you?
Do you want to teach in Beijing Beihang University from Sep?
We can pay 6000RMB/month to you each month for 18 class hours per week (45 minutes per class hour). We will give full salary in Spring Festival. Our contract period is from 25th of Aug to 10th of July. So you will not teach in Summer in our university. We can agree to give a dvd and computer with ADSL internet access to you.
Thanks.

I've just deleted a posting on this thread for name-calling and personal insults. An individual warning has been issued not to repeat such behavior. Unfortunately, another posting had to be deleted, as it quoted the offensive posting.
I want to encourage everyone to stay on topic and engage in civil discussion. |

The offer I got was pretty good. I'm not going to jinx it by spilling the details, at least not until I have a signed contract in my hands! But, those of you in Beijing can look forward to my arrival in Spring.
"Who are you?" you're probably all wondering... |
