Hi all,

I need some advice. I have a TESOL certificate. I see ads for IELTS. Would it be worth me obtaining the IELTS certificate? Are there more jobs for IELTS? Do IELTS jobs pay better?

Any advice would be great!

thanks,

IELTS is an exam for students not teachers.

True but it brings up an interesting question: Can a teacher get qualifications to be an IELTS examiner, and if so, how? Also, what training can a teacher take to teach IELTS?

This is interesting as I'm teaching IELTS for the first time and find it to be a fascinating study. This segment of the market, i.e. test-preparation, seems to be a more stable and predictable one than the others. There will always be people wanting to study abroad, and hence, pass the necessary test. So this market looks like a good one.

Contact your nearest British Council. They will be able to tell you how to get certified as an IELTS examiner.

Yep, I'm down for training in two weeks. Takes a day and then you are eligible for some quite lucrative marking work - if you can get it. British Council are also one of the major centres so, if you do have a cert, it is worth contacting your nearest one to see if they have any part time work for you. They are really hot on it here in Korea and examine about 3000 people a year. Lots of dosh and overtime for us minions therefore.
