I have been working for over a year now for mainly just one school. For the first 6 months I was taxed 25%, which is now 10%. I was told by a friend that they claimed back 15% of the 25% from their first 6 months. Is this possible anyone?? |

No reply to your question- Hmmmm. Means, like me, nobody knows for sure.
I have heard about this, ut to be hoinest, never met anyone who actually got the tax back. When they ask about it, they get sacked or their hours mysteriously get cut back so severly, that they have to find another job.
An acquaintence of mine DID ask to see the records where the tax had been deducted AND sent to the Tax Office, but the records "went missing" and his work was no longer up to speed-so better find a new job"
Unusual coincidence isn't it? Wonder where the school owner got the money for her new Dylan bike? |

I am not sure either but I was planning on chasing this up shortly as I'm in the same boat as rosie1. Anyway I'll post again when I know more. |

Your school should have withheld the money but not actually sent the money to the Tax department. When you have proved that you have spent 180 consecutive days in the country (through showing your stamps in your passport) they should refund you the money. |

"Should" refund your tax.
"Should" and "will" are very different words in Vietnam. A promise is just another lie. |

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to the tax office today to give it a try. The school don't want to know, but have given me the paperwork to give to the tax office. I'm leaving Vietnam soon so I'm not worried about losing my hours. I'll let you know how it goes. |

GOOD NEWS!!!! I GOT MY TAX BACK!
Here's what I did.
I went to the tax office at 140 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai with my work permit, employment contract and all of the paperwork which showed how much tax the school deducted each month. I spoke with a very helpful man who processed all the paperwork for me. I was given a receipt and told to come back in 1 month. I went back to see them last week and they gave me a form stating the amount owed. I collected the cash from the government treasury at 37 Nguyen Hue. I hope this is useful for others who would like to try. |
