... So, the folks who are going to/are in Asia... did you all cough up the ridiculous amount of money that they want for the rabies and Japanese encephalitis vaccinations? I knew I'd need to pay for a couple, but it looks like it's going to be 150 for rabies, and 160 for JE.
Did anyone else feel mad when they realised just how much it was?! And did you all get both/is there any I can do without/is there any cheaper means of getting these vaccinations?
I'm going to Korea, if that helps... |

Get your Hep A/B (takes MONTHS so start now and complete it in Asia if need be). Get the rest when you get to Asia. They are much cheaper and readily available. Rabies isn't needed.

Hep A/B/Typhoid are sitting in my fridge right now (I found this so strange when the nurse gave me the prescription and said "here you are" and that was it... she must've thought I was an idiot when she had to explain that I've to keep them and bring them back another day for her to do lol), I'm leaving in October so they've given me an accelerated course
As for getting the rest out there, thanks for the heads up, I didn't think of that! Having a dim week, aren't I? |

I got Twinrix which was two of the three Heps back in college. It was worth it, supposedly I'm good for life. Japanese encephalitis only if you're going to be in small towns. Rabies, no. It's not worth it for me. the chances that I'll get bitten by a rabid animal are slim. If you go to the jungle, maybe.
ONe thing to mention is that not all the vacs are easily availble. I went to a clinic here in my town and asked for typhoid. They say no, because there is no typhoid in this country. I wanted it because I was travelling. The intl clinics / hospitals probably had it, b ut I just looked at them and gave up. It's only good for two years and the places where I'm travelling to didn't really have it. Or they did, but I just didn't see the point anymore. I kept tyhpoid up for about 10 years, ebcause it's recommended for everyone, even peopel in the US. Maybe I'll get it next year or the next, but I'm not really sure if it's even worth it. |
