Confused
I was recently told by Nova that the Japanese immigration wont accept my MA and will only accept BA`s for sponsered teaching roles in Japan.
Is there anyone on a sponsered visa in Japan that only had to show there MA.

A few reasons:

- The person who interviewed you was a complete idiot (most likely).

- They were just trying to let you down gently. ( Hard to believe they could be so sensitive).

I am in no way knowlegeable about this, but it does seem possible that if an MA holder does not have a BA (as is the case for many British MA holders) then the minimum requirement for immigration is not technically met.

Maybe they knew that for a guy with a higher degree he sure can't spell.

BAs doesnt require an apostrophe anyway.

This is from the Ministry of Justic own website visas

1. In cases where the applicant is to engage in instruction at a vocational school ("Kakushugakko") or an educational institution equivalent to it in facilities and curriculum or in cases where the applicant is to engage in instruction at other school with a capacity other than a "teacher", the following conditions are to be fulfilled.
However (a) is to be fulfilled in cases where the applicant is to engage in instruction at a vocational school or an educational institution equivalent to it in facilities and curriculum which is established to give the children with the status of residence "Diplomat" or "Official" mentioned in Annexed Table 1 (1) or "Dependent" mentioned in Annexed Table 1 (4) education of primary, junior and senior high school in foreign language.

a. The applicant must have graduated from or completed a college or acquired equivalent education, or must hold a license to teach the subject that he or she intends to teach in Japan.

If he has graduated and has a university degree, (Masters or Bachelors), he qualifies for a work visa. It says nothing about the degree needing to be a BA.

Well, if you were to put an "s" on Justic (which is missing an "e" by the way) then would it need an apostrophe? Wink

Hi,

My work visa was arranged with my M.A. cert. Immigration never even saw my first degree cert.

There goes the lunch bell...

Actually, come to think of it, I once helped push through a delayed application for a colleague who couldn't for the life of her locate her 20 year old BA cert. So, we went with her recent MA cert and it went through like the proverbial hot knife.

That was Nagoya so it is possible there at least.

Agree with most people here that an M.A. is fine. Nova wont hire you because you are HUGELY over qualified. You took the time to get a good education and this means therefore you might get a bit peeved being treated like a child by a socially inept knob (ave. nova trainer) with litttle or no relevant education. If I were you I would take it as massive compliment they knocked you back and look for a decent job.
