Currently I'm in Beijing, China with only 5 days to leave China. The Visa/Exit police have canceled my current visa and asked me to go back to New Zealand. I was cheated by an agent here in Beijing leaving me with little money, no job, my passport nearly filled up with visa's so needing a new passport. My embassy are trying to send me home, but cant pay for me go back home. I prefer go to Hong Kong, than face detention in Beijing next Wednesday. My embassy are insistent I don't go to Hong Kong but go straight home, but after the family abuse I faced when I was younger it's something I dont want to face. If anyone can help me in Hong Kong please email me. I really want to get on my feet and get back to China as soon as possible, not be forced to go home. I worry that by next Wednesday it's too late and I end up being locked up in Beijing and deported. I never want to face this. I have been working in china for nearly 7 years, have TESOL but no degree. There are many offers of work in China but Im unable to do anything now due to being forced to leave.
Im rather scared, not happy with the fact my embassy is forcing me to take the advice and go home, with the risk of not being able to raise the money for the air ticket home. They will not pay for my flight home, I must raise that money myself, but they can help call people on my behalf, friends family etc.
My email is [email protected]

Hewlett, don't go to HK. Really. It's an expensive place. As others have mentioned on other forums, your main problems are not actually financial, but, dare I say, psychological. I'm not going to pretend to understand what those issues are (no doubt related to your childhood), but HK is not the place to sort out your sh.t. There must be some way to go back to NZ and start again without being dependent on your family in any way. NZ is a welfare state. You might end up in some abode for the homeless/destitute, but at least you would have time to get your crap together. HK is a dog eat dog world. There is nothing for you to fall back on here. IN NZ at least you have the welfare state. I used to work in NZ as a guidance for long term unemployed. If you are penniless, you still have hope. In China you beg or starve. In HK they lock you in cages with 100 000 other destitute people - if you qualify!
Finally, HK is NOT a friendly place. Unlike mainland China, nobody will talk to you just because you are white. In fact, nobody will even make eye contact with you. This is the same for locals. Most people don't even say hello to service people here, or look at them. Come here penniless and with no connections, and you will almost certainly find yourself in dire financial straits and completely alienated. Alienation and destitution are not a great combination for someone in your situation.
Welcome back to NZ. Life has a way of making you deal with your demons. They follow you no matter where you go. NZ is the place for you to deal with them at this point in time. All the best.

After reading your last posts, I can see that there are issues here that are not to do with China or Visas.
One minute you are John, the next you are Daniel?
- Cancelled a visa? What?
- 7 years and you get stung by agent?
- 7 years and you've got no teaching contacts/possibilities?
- The NZ embassy won't help? Really?
- Forced to leave
- Full passport after 7 years?
Sorry but it all sounds too dodgy. |
