Hey, does anyone know if there are any ESL jobs in Dalat or Hue?
Thanks, Carla

Errrmmm.....no.

Naw, those are NOT two of the more "hot-spot" locations for plentiful ESL instruction jobs.

GENERALLY....you are not going to find large numbers of (or, truthfully, ANY) jobs in any place that can legitimately pass as a tourist locale. Not in DaLat....not Hue....not Sapa....not Cat Ba Island/Ha Long Bay......POSSIBLY VUNG TAU, but I don't know enough about The South to state accurately IF that could be EITHER 1) - A tourist locale or 2) - An ESL instructor jobs hot spot or 3) - both!

It's fascinating how the succinct and accurate comment "very slim chances" became "ESL hotspot with plentiful jobs".

OP, try the Hue College of Foreign Languages. I know that they employ a few native speaking teachers.

Thanks for the info. Can anyone recommend any smaller cities (not Hanoi or HCMC) that might be a good place to job hunt?

Da Nang is a very livable city and has (relatively) good job prospects. ILA and Apollo both have schools there.

Seconded. But, if I was working in Danang, I would probably be tempted to live in Hoi An and just drive into work every day. There's actually a couple of jobs advertised on Daves' currently for Danang (can't comment on their quality though). The University of Queensland is also set up there and I know a guy quite well who used to teach there. Might be worth touching base with them. Good luck!

I disagree. That's bad advice.

It's a good 40-60 minute commute between Hoi An and Da Nang, on not very nice roads.

If you're talking about riding a motorbike, I suggest you ride that road at night time before recommending the commute (that's not even taking the rainy season into account).

If you're talking about taxis, the fares will add up to quite a significant amount ($15 or so each way).

If you're talking public buses, you'll save money but have no way of knowing when they will get you there (I doubt they run at all at the time of night you may be finishing classes) and you'll the aggravation of dealing with the driver and assistants.

Maybe it is bad advice Embarassed. I've only been to Hoi An once and that was well over a year ago. I really loved it though. The commute from Danang to Hoi An, based on my recollection (which may indeed have become a bit fuzzy), wasn't that bad. I would have put the time it took as around 30 minutes and I honestly don't remember anything about bad roads. Like I said, it's been a while since I've been there so maybe I was talking nonsense. Probably the best thing to do would be to just arrive there and work out where you want to live after you get there.
