It matters because it demonstrates the sheer stupidity of some politicians.

If Mr. Weiner had not lied to everyone so blatantly and so arrogantly, none of this would have happened.

Instead he was reduced to a sorry spectacle. At his press conference, he was crying and admitting to the obvious truth: That he had been sending pictures of his private parts to strange women. (No one hacked his Twitter account, as he had previously claimed.)

It was completely embarrassing not only for him but for his wife as well.

Still, a human train wreck is fascinating to watch.
