As the title says, are there any particular qualifications that would make a person more desirable for working in a "hot zone", a place of unrest?

I'd like to do ESL teaching in dangerous places. Mostly for the thrill and adventure, but also because I want exposure to life in these countries that could be valuable later on.

My first choice was the military but I was medically disqualified.

So, beyond the normal BA + CELTA + Internship, what qualifications make one more desirable for working in a hot zone?

An MA would help
Teaching experience in whatever situation you need (ie, university, EAP), Experience in the MIddle East or similar countries.

The US military has some teaching jobs available. Would you qualify for those even if you were medically discharged?

At CELTA they suggested a bunch of companies that offer jobs all over the place, including dangerous places. I did a quick google search and saw one of them: The British Council. It's pretty competitive to get a job with them, but if you do good on the CELTA you can get references there. You'll probably also need to have experience (from a internship or otherwise) for a couple of years.

Anyway, there's plenty of other places that offer jobs in dangerous places, NPOs, private teaching companies. But most of them will require the same amount of experience. I'm working on those two years of practical experience myself.
