Is this common? Not so common?
I've been waiting for 3 1/2 months with a signed offer in hand for an IPA visa and now they have cut off all communication with me at the very end. |

Thanks for the laugh with my morning tea.
The process of getting a job in Saudi (and most of the rest of the Gulf) is a good introduction to the frustrations of the jobs themselves. Had you received a firm offer in writing?

No problem. Yes, in fact they said the offer was so rock solid that nothing could possibly go wrong. |

The first time I was on the way to Saudi, in '92, while still in the US I had trouble sleeping, as usual. My local American doctor assumed I was depressed because I was going to Saudi Arabia and prescribed Prozac. I wasn't depressed and the Prozac, a whole tablet, mae me sleep for 20 hours. |

Dear Valaki,
I'm very sorry to hear of your problem - I think, though, that I've discovered
what the matter is:
" . . . nothing could possibly go wrong."
You see, in Saudi, everything can, does, and will go wrong.
Regards,
John
P.S. If you ever get there, and a Saudi says to you, "Ma fi mushkila" (i.e. No problem,") that's when you know for sure there IS a problem. |

Dear John,
I've been told the following (not by IPA):
"Don't worry, if this job is meant for you, God will make it easy."
Guess what happened there. |

Sorry for the necrobumping, but I think the problem was that even the Western recruiters at IPA have no idea about the block visa system. So they said "sure, come right along!" and tried to acquire a visa from the ministry for 3 months.
Then, when the higher-ups realized that getting a block visa for someone from a completely unknown country in Central Europe costs them time and money, they just cancelled the process because they didn't want me THAT much. LOL |

I heard that it happened to someone else too a few years back.
Lesson: never trust what you hear from them until you get the visa waiting for you at the Saudi embassy. Don't resign from your job until you are 100% sure that you have the visa in your passport. |

Valaki should know by now that the rule is there are no rules - especially for Wallachians. |

I am not Wallachian. On the contrary, my people ruled over the Wallachians for hundreds of years until the so-called Versailles "Treaty" came along.
I am in SE Asia now, and will remain here until someone in KSA decides I'm worth the effort to fight with the Ministry for the block visa. |

For Ottomans and Phanariots the rules are the same - there are no rules.
And you really should know that Versailles did not apply to the Ottoman Empire. That was the subject of the Treaty of Sevres.
I am afraid you will have to retake 101 Modern European History, unless you can bribe your tutor. |

I am neither an Ottoman or a Phanariot. I am as white and European as you can get. No offense to Os and Ps.
There was another empire that ruled that region, starting from as far back as 500 AD (and maybe even before that). But I admit I was wrong about Wallachia, although I'm pretty sure we presided over that territory for quite some time. |

Even Pannnonia Hvrats Magyars and Bessarabians are bit to much bother
Good news youve had a lucky escape its a kind rehab prison for terinally broke /optimistic.
If you have any issues or tendancy to depression,Zionism,Islamophoba, normalcy, cleanliness or fun avoid
If you are perapred to work hard for a fair comapny and despite all the stuff Iread here Bell AEGT and EDEX all do what it says on the tin within aSaudi framework
If you can deal with dust uncertainty prayer times and lots of Kapsa burpers you may survive with a bankroll and only need minor therapy
If you like to be a humble servant to dullards like camels little boys and regular prayer this is paradise
You have been warned
