Hello
First, a bit about myself. I just turned 61 years old. I'm a Canadian citizen. I have a BA in anthropology and a 100 hour online TEFL cert. At the moment, I can't afford a 120 plus hour course that includes a supervised teaching component. Most of the programs that I've looked at cost between $1,500 and $2,000.
I have 4 years ESL teaching experience that includes 2 years in South Korea, 1 year in China and 1 year in Chile. It's my understanding that neither South Korea or China will hire teachers over 60.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what country might have teaching opportunities for me? Thanks in advance. Maria |

No place that will not have startup-costs in the $3000-5000 range.
No-place is likely to hire you from abroad (but you may get lucky in China).
With your documents in hand and boots on the ground you may find hagwan work in Korea.
The same is true of everywhere else in East/SE Asia. IF you fly in and have your documents in hand and are willing to hit the pavement, ready to do a demo lesson you can probably find work. Having some pics of yourself working as a teacher would be a bonus.
The risks are all yours. You pay the flight over and cover your living expenses till you find enough work to sustain yourself. Non-touristy parts of Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia are all possible but you won't make much money (typically salaries are in the $1000 range).
I have been told that you can find work in places like Mexico but I truly have no idea. Check the Mexican forums for more particulars.
