Dear Colleagues,
I am looking at applying for a EFL position with The Turco-British Association (TBA) in Turkey.
Has anyone recently worked for this institute?
Would you recommend working for this employer?
I have MA (TESOL), and CELTA but most importantly I need to cater for the schooling needs for my son who is 11 years old. He will need to attend a reputed English medium school in Turkey.
I am an Australian citizen of Indian origin, but my wife is of Australian/British origin, would she have any problems living and working in Turkey?
I know from reading that there are issues with white-women living in Saudi, hence the question.
Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
For those who have a feedback to share but wish to bypass this forum, they can email me directly at [email protected]
warm regards

I can't answer all your questions but here goes with some:
I can say that Saudi and Turkey are worlds apart. Even though expectations of women are different here to what your wife is probably used to in Australia, women are not obliged to cover up, drive cars, have jobs, many drink alcohol etc etc (I often wear shorts to go to the corner shop)
I too am a parent and from the little research I've done into English-language international schools I've discovered that its very expensive unless you actually work at one of them and get a discount. Don't quote me (as there may be an exception) but you need to be a qualified school-not TEFL-teacher to work at them
As for living here, you can get a residence permit with both nationalities. Visit the Turkish Consulate web site in Australia for more info
Hopefully others will be able to give you more specific info |
