Hello everyone:
I have completed my TEFL Certificate here in New Zealand. Ive done 120 teaching (Elem and intermediate) and have a university degree. I am planning to look for TEFL jobs in Istanbul in the very near future and would love some feedback and advice from anyone who has lived and taught in Turkey.
I'm wondering the best schools to apply for teaching jobs in Istanbul? Ive heard some horror stories about schools in Istanbul but no good stories. Which are the good schools? Im more interested in reasonable hours, TD, supportive environment than making lots of money (although lots of money would of course be nice.)
Is it better/realistic to try and get a job before landing in Turkey? Also, will any schools help with a residence permit?
I have a partner, but she isnt planning to work so would she be able to come in on my visa, or her own? I have joint UK and New Zealand citizenship, my partner has NZ citizenship only.
So many questions! Thanks in advance for any help-.

Best schools is a bit relative; there are a billion schools in Istanbul. I'd suggest just arriving, walking around and applying in person. When you get some offers, post them here and ask for feedback. British Side is one of the best schools, English Time is generally considered one of the worst (not necessarily my opinion - I think it's fine for what it is).
Most schools will help with residence permits, but not work permits.
She can just buy her own tourist visa and then her own residence permit - no problem at all.
Good luck! |
