I applied to this program, which seemed too good to be true, and got a response back saying my application was denied due to not graduating before 2009 and having 2 years of classroom teaching experience. Then I got a long spiel about how if I pay $500 that I could go to Thailand and get my TESOL training and a guaranteed job. Seems shady, especially since they left out that vital piece of information and tried to sell me their Thailand package. I have over 5 years in the classroom working with young children as a teacher assistant and have 1 years of actual teaching experience and graduated last year. I fully qualify for this position. Be wary of applying with this company and giving them your credentials. For some reason they ask for your date of birth as well, which I found a bit weird but whatever. Here are the links for the site and Dave's post.

teflinternational are actually one of the legitimate organizations in the esl world and they've advertised on this website for several years now. The founder, Bruce Veldhuisen, used to (maybe still does) take an active part on various parts of daves esl cafe forums (teacher training mostly). I don't know what they told you or what the exact details are but a couple of years independent teaching experience and being over the age of 23 or 24 (maybe the reason for asking your birth-date) are supposedly two of the prerequisites for esl jobs in China. |

There's nothing about that on the site or their posting... I wasn't saying they weren't legitimate, but shady, yes, definitely. I meet all of those requirements but the main point is, the posting itself. TEFL International's site is misleading. I should have been more clear I suppose. Why go through TEFL International and have misleading information? Again, be wary, I didn't say don't ever apply with them. I comment on my experience only and my experience (dealing with TEFL International) has been very misleading and seemed like a way to sell their TESOL program then to truly represent Disney English. That's what I was meaning to convey. I apologize for not being more clear. |
