Hello
First, a bit about myself. I just turned 61 years old. I'm a Canadian citizen. I have a BA in anthropology and a 100 hour online TEFL cert. At the moment, I can't afford a 120 plus hour course that includes a supervised teaching component. Most of the programs that I've looked at cost between $1,500 and $2,000.
I have 4 years ESL teaching experience that includes 2 years in South Korea, 1 year in China and 1 year in Chile. Would there be any teaching opportunities for me in Mexico? Thanks in advance. Maria

That's what will count most...you'll be fine for work here. Do you prefer to work with kids or adults?

What Guy said, plus, I just wouldnt volunteer that it is an online certificate, and you likely wont be asked. You might want to consider getting it apostilled, though, if you can, you might need it to get a work visa since your degree is in an unrelated area.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Guy, I'm flexible - I'm willing to teach both kids and adults. Do either of you have any suggestions as to what location (town, city) might be a good place to start my search? Thanks again

Depends on what you are looking for in terms of lifestyle. There is always lots of work in Mexico City and Guadalajara, but if a smaller place is more your style, you might want to check out Puebla (which is actually the 4th largest city, but doesnt feel like it) or Queretaro. Puebla is actually MY favorite city in all of Mexico. Its beautiful, clean, the people are generally friendly, and the food is out of this world. If you want something off the beaten path, you might find something, but realize that you would then be tied to that job if you are in a place that ends up not being to your liking. Since you have a degree, you might also look at some private schools, instead of just languaqe institutes. Do you speak Spanish at all? If not, you might end up feeling isolated in a place where there arent too many English speakers. That, or youll learn Spanish really fast.

Thanks for the info BBB. I'll look into Puebla and Queretaro. I'm not too interested in Mexico City due to it's size and pollution problems. I've heard that Guadalajara has become dangerous (don't know if this is true). I'm currently teaching English in Punta Arenas, Chile - my Spanish is good, although I wouldn't rate myself as fluent. I'm the only "gringo" here in Punta Arenas, so I'm looking for somewhere where I'm not the only native English speaker in town. Thanks again for the info and your help Very Happy

You might want to look into the state of Oaxaca too.
