Hi everybody. I'm looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in Cau Giay or My Dinh districts for $400/m or less. Dong Da would also do. I've been searching through the New Hanoian, contacting various agents, and I keep getting this impression that maybe I'm not looking in the right places for a good deal. So far I'm seeing $500 and up for decent places in Cau Giay...too rich for my blood. Thanks for your consideration.

DONG DA??

EIGHT MILLION DONG A MONTH??

Naw....naw......maybe 12 million ($600USD) a month might get you a small house of one-and-a-half floors in outer Cau Giay or Thanh Xuan or (doubtful) across the river in Long Bien......I wish that I could say that Ha Noi is one of thee most over-priced places on Earth, but technically, it is not, because the demand for housing in Ha Noi is stratospheric and by far exceeds available supply there.....

...in addition to rampant inflation, I have a creeping feeling in the back of my mind that artificially inflated housing values are placing Viet Nam on the verge of a severe housing bubble that is ready to burst shortly.

....ONLY thing that I can think of that MIGHT help would be taking a close Vietnamese friend OUT WITH YOU to go house hunting, and maybe ya might have a shot at mitigating the level of the Ty tax!!
