There is a lot of talk on here about Mschools and how they are great for newbies. What's the deal for qualified, experienced teachers?
visa, accom and salary? I think for newbies it's something like 20,000r a month.
Of course, one wouldn't take a job for less than 75,000r as permanent digs - just wondering if the mcschools pay that sort of money on a salary? |

This is comic.
Of all the posts and posters on this forum that talk about mcschools not a single one has a comment to make.
I suppose mcschool and qualified teacher = oxymoron

Not so comic: just means that most of the posters here don't work full-time in a McSchool, I'd say. Quite a positive state for them!
Couldn't tell you about the current salaries for full-time experienced teachers in said schools. Doubt they are near what you are looking for though. Hence the recommendation only to people coming to Russia for the first time, where salary is not the only concern. |

ancient, I thought you teach privately, not with a mcschool. Are you thinking of joining them? Or what exactly is the purpose of this post. Do you want to see how badly they treat their teachers. |

firstly - native teachers are best = stupid comment. take it with a pinch of salt.
secondly - purpose of the post is because one always needs a permanent dig - for the work permit. so was wondering if conditions were good for qualified teachers. deadly serious.
if they pay well on a salary - i couldn't care less how they treat me. (within reason) |

Contract positions are a waste of time but I think you can do pretty well if you work hourly-paid at some McSchools.
If you have some experience and are happy to teach classes that are 'difficult' for the majority of the novice teachers who work there (such as IELTS, CPE, Business Skills, Writing), the pay is fine - probably 30,000Rub+ / week. However, that would mean split shifts, evening classes and weekends.
I'm not sure what arrangements they make with visas. I think some deal where they help with the paperwork but you cover the costs. |

Are they not still 'taxing' teachers hand over fist for visa support? As in 3 to 4 thousand a month... Anyone know? |

I guess 30,000r a week would be 1000r an hour. That would be fairly reasonable. It seems high but of course students regularly cancel and then there is the holiday thing, holidays for the teacher are very expensive!

I think that wouldn't be a bad deal actually. For a lot of people, they have to leave every three months to renew their visa. That's expensive. even 5000 a month would be considerably less than 4 trips home - combined with the week or so it takes to do the visa. One trip home with visa and flights is probably 35,000r minimum and one needs 4!
Do you know any organisations that offer paid visa support in this way? Effectively selling work permits? |

You can buy a work visa from the agencies that create 'ghost' companies and then sell on their visa quota. I looked into it once but remember thinking that it was too expensive.
I'll find out about the 'visa tax' - but I think it's one of those policy points that changes every few months.
Still, you know what they say about the McSchools - you only work two days: the day you go in and the day you come out! |
