I attended a conference hosted by this college a few years back (Abu Dhabi 2008) and met a number of students, faculty and administrators. I don't recall the college director's name, but he was one of the first to start a new college in the UAE decades ago, and he seemed to be a very capable, well spoken sort of fellow--from Jordan, or maybe it was Palestine.
The students were mainly expats from India, Pakistan, other Arab countries besides the Emirates, but there were a few Emiratis. This seemed to be a result of low tuition and the college's being out of the state supported group of institutions (private college??).
The students were quite friendly and perhaps even somewhat more motivated it seemed than the general Emirati student population, though this perception is based on interactions at the conference and not in the classroom since I've never taught for them. My impressions from this conference were on the whole very positive. Friendly students from a variety of countries, something you won't get in the institutions catering solely to the UAE student population. |
