|
|
| I've searched, but the consensus seems to be "go to Thailand if you want decent care." I don't want to pay $60-150 for an evaluation, but I also don't want a local doctor and the concomitant lack of training/knowledge. I have personally been to the Family Medical Clinic, and although I got a solid British doctor, the cost was pretty high. I know a good local place for the "malady of the month" issues, but if I want a solid evaluation, where can I go? |

| An Sinh hospital on Tran Huy Lieu street was instrumental in keeping me alive during a recent emergency surgery need. I found that some of the people advising me were very casual about what was a very serious need for immediate action (but not at that hospital, they did fine). They sent me to another hospital that did the surgery, the crazy thing is, one can find excellent care and life threatening sloppiness in the same place. Anyway, that hospital I referenced did nothing bad and everything good on my case. My take on the experience is you can get taken care of properly at the moment of truth (surgery), the surgery center was really first rate, but everything before and after it can be a nightmare, especially the recovery area. Actually, a nightmare is just a dream, the recovery areas are reality, and the drugs you are on make it a very unique experience. If anything really serious is up, it pays enormously to have your own VN helper with you for translations and case management, he/she may be the difference between life and death. Mine was. |

| Well, unfortunately, it's the "way before the surgery" part that I'm interested in. Somewhere to get a decently-priced Western doctor is all I really want. FMC is $60 + testing, so something less would be preferable. A basic physical plus consultation over a chronic condition (that one would want people fairly competent in medicine to discuss with). I figure there will be a number of tests after the consultation, so low figures for those also would be appreciated. |

| SOS is good, but expensive. If you don't have an issue, you can get a physical here/ If you are concerned about something, go to Bangkok, to Bumrungrad Hospital. You will get great care at good prices. Scrimp on your next holiday, scrimp on alcohol, but don't mess with your health. |

| If you're in HCMC then Victoria Healthcare at 79 Dien Bien Phu Street, District 1 and 135A Nguyen Van Troi Street, Phu Nhuan District might be worth a look. The prices in this place are reasonable enough, though not dirt cheap. |
