Hi,
Has anyone worked or is working for METEN English?
If so, do you recommend working for the company?
Any branches to stay away from?
Helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks. |

I have worked part-time for them for 2 years, and it is an easy gig. No prep work, they schedule 5 classes in six hours, so in 1 day you make 500 yuan. Not bad money for where I live. Full time may be different. I have heard stories about them holding your foreign expert book so you can't jump ship to other schools. Vacation time is scant, and I imagine I would get burned out quickly as a full time teacher. Still, I know 5 or 6 guys who have worked there for a very long time and seem content. They have always treated me well. If you are reliable and the students like you, there shouldn't be any problems. |

My two cents:

So this would be less than 100 yuan an hour?

Too controlling. I personally would not work for a school that breaks the law like this. The certificate is supposed to be in the teacher's possession. |

I know some people who work for Meten here in my city in the south. Most of them like it, except for the pay. 100 per hour for part-time is just not enough for expeienced, qualified teacher! I make 130 to 175 doing my own private tutoring with my schedule. Why would I do Meten? |

I tried to apply for a position with them, but the process was interminable. I got sent to three different reps (they all wanted the same documents), then had a 45 minute phone interview then they wanted me to send them an interactive lesson plan then they wanted audios and videos of me in action then.......
Then I told them I didn't think I was right for them.
I should mention I was out of the country, but it still seemed a bit much. If they're that anal during the hiring process, it doesn't portend well for the on-the-job atmosphere. Seems like the probationary period would tell them what they need to know. |

Private training centers can be strange this way. I hate to say it but, they are all about kissing the butts of the students who pay the high bucks for tuition there. If you are not GREAT everyday, every class, they will talk to you about it. I would NOT do it again! |

No, that includes an hour for lunch. Sorry, if I wasn't clear. |

They pay really low. 100 to 120 an hour for part timers. Scab work. |
