Hello Everyone,
I've read just about every post and I am now left with a very discouraged feeling toward taking a leap of faith and blindly coming over to Taiwan in search of work.
I have read that I may have better luck since I am female and "young." I did notice that many of the negative posts that claim it's extremely difficult to find work have come from young men. Could this have anything to do with it?
fellow ladies,
If you were me, 26 year old ( look a bit younger), with a BA and no TEFL Cert. would you come to Taiwan with hopes of landing a 15 to 20 hour cram school position? Or would you tell me that I am insane?
What has been your experience?
Is coming to Taiwan a complete waste of time and money?
I've invested several months in doing the research and feel as though if I don't come to Taiwan, i'm not going anywhere.
Is it hopeless? Help! |

By now you have probably already made a decision to either try Taiwan or not, but in case you are still undecided, I will suggest that you apply for jobs in advance. I would imagine you would find plenty of cram school jobs, and if you apply in advance, you don't have to be stressed about finding something once you're there. From what I saw, Taipei attracts many more male than female teachers, so being female could be a plus. Good luck! One more thing - Taiwan is a fabulous place to learn to teach, as students are generally more polite and disciplined than elsewhere, and the little kids are the cutest in the world (in my opinion). |
