| Is a year spent substitute teaching acceptable for fulfilling one year of the 2 year teaching requirement to get a "Z" visa? |

It's supposed to be 2 years full time. However, the regulations used to determine eligibility vary from place to place and day to day. Please Google SAFEA regulations and Chinese visa law for better answers to this and other queries regarding work here.

Depends where you are applying I think, but am pretty certain 2 years 'experience' does not mean two years 'teaching experience'. I think it has more to do with getting people who have held their degrees for a while, had a job and are in their mid-20s rather than finding professional, qualified teachers.
As I said, some provinces or cities are more particular than others on these points. |

it'll likely work. the school is going to re-write and translate your resume
when they apply for the work permit. if i recall, my school wanted two
years of teaching experience to submit. they used my time at university
studying chinese -- part-time (unpaid) tutoring chinese students in
english. not even tutoring, really, just the odd language exchange
meet over beer. my other year of experience was my time giving
railroad safety briefings to telecoms engineers. |
