Hey all,

I'm a certified elementary teacher with a B.A. and a B.Ed in Canada.
I've recently become really interested in possibly looking for a job in Thailand but not an ESL job since I have a teaching degree.

I've been browsing through the forum and most postings seem to be talking about jobs in language schools where they require you to have a Bachelors of any subject and maybe a TESOL cert etc.

So I was wondering... is there anyone out there that is a licensed teacher that has experience/advice about working at international schools or private schools?

Thanks!

How high is up?

What do you want to know?
What do you want to teach (primary or any job that gets you here)?
Where do you want to teach (In the big mango or one of the smaller cities - the beach isn't going to happen from abroad at this time of year)?
Do you have at least 2 years of verifiable (post graduation) classroom experience?
Do you have any large bills at home (student loans) that you have to try to cover while you are abroad?

A large number of jobs (even in ESL) are NOT at language academies but at government schools and/or private schools with bilingual or English Programs.

You are certainly starting your search at the wrong time of year for most decent jobs outside of ESL.

I'd like to hear any and everything. I know it's pretty late to be looking around but that's why I'm posting here so I can gain a little bit more understanding of what's out there. Even down to what area people would recommend. I actually won't even be able to fully decide until late Fall because the school boards here will potentially hire again in the Fall. I guess I won't find anything then?

I'm interested in teaching Kindergarten or Primary. As for my experience, I graduated last year, and it's been difficult landing a job here where I live. So I don't have 2 full years of experience if you count classroom teaching.

As for related work experience, I've taught for 3 years in a small group setting at a learning centre, 1 year as a private tutor, completed an extended practicum during my program of course, volunteered 2-3 days/week in Kindergarten for the past year, and the year prior to doing my B.Ed. I've also worked on call this past at a preschool.

I also have a Kindergarten Instruction Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

Zero student loans to pay off.

I've been looking at the site teachingthailand and there seem to be K-Primary jobs there that pay 45,000 Baht, and cover visas and things.
