If one has applied both to a job offered by a recruiter and MOHE and the recruiter gets the paperwork together first does that commit one to them? At what point is the offer bound? I don't want to lose a bad job while waiting for a possibly better job. I say possible because I don't know the location!
I'm waiting on MOHE who "hired" me after our interview but they would not tell me which college. They have all my papers etc but say they cannot give the location until it goes through the paperwork stage.
Meanwhile a recruiter who I also applied through is emailing asking me to give my home airport. I think they committed me a lot more than I did.
Do you know is the recruiter is turning in papers on one if it will mess up the job possibility with MOHE?
Like anyone I just want to take the best job. |

I doubt that they know where they will place you as they don't know yet where they need you. Since the recruiter is working for the MOHE (or MOM... but both are government hires), I would think it would be a risk to accept two jobs with such related parties.
This could get sticky and it would seem highly possible to end up with neither of them. Personally I would tell both of them the situation and follow their advice. It might be less risky to take the direct MOHE hire and you can always change to another location next year. If this is for this semester, you haven't really got time to wait while the chips fall...

Thanks VD.
I recently spoke with the recruiter and was upfront with him why I was stalling. Not a problem, in fact he said maybe he can change the location for me and he seems willing to wait.
I'm still on hold with MOHE. In July he said that he would let me know the location in 1 week but I still have not been told.
Originally he said they want to fill this particular job in Sohar, Nizwa, Salala and Sur. It is not teaching English so I'd deal with different DOH than in the Engl. Dept.
They sent me the job offer and asked for a commitment. I gave it with a stipulation of location. Even though some people love Salalah I have a dog and need to be closer to a good vet in Muscat. I've never been to these locations just have spent time in Muscat and some nearby towns so do not have an idea what to expect.

You know runninggirl, you're either poor at keyboarding or this is the most potent Freudian slip in a long, long time.
It's Shocking! |

My (first overseas) job hunt has been full of that situation. Gets stressful. |

now we see why taking a job directly via MOH is more favorable than dealing with recruiters, it is especially problematic when both the field director and the coordinator are a couple. Who ya gonna run to....? |
