|
|
Hi there , can you please advise me about EFL job prospects and pay in Thailand.
I have;
TESOL Cert,
TESOL Diploma,
HND Business Studies,
first degree (Open University UK),
masters degree (MA Education),
PGCE (post compulsory) = equivalent of PGDE.
Im a director of studies of an EFL Dept. at a UK College of FE and facing possible redundancy. Ive been teaching for 17 years.
Given my situation, what kind of jobs and salary might I expect Thanks very much for your help. |

Nothing decent fresh off the plane.
Wrong time of year doesn't help either.
There are lots of 50-somethings who were made redundant / family split up / mid life crisis-career change who decided to give the Land Of Smiles a try over the last few years. You are joining the crowd.
Look at international schools but you still can only expect a starting wage in the 60k range in your first year (lots of potential to move up in salary in your 2nd year after you are a proven (in Thailand) entity - either at the same location or with a move to a better job).
Some of the international schools follow the western academic calendar (year starts in Sept). The Thai schools all start their academic year in mid May. Recruitment occurs 3-6 months in advance at the better international schools and 2-4 months in advance at bilingual/EP Thai schools.
