I've decided to go down to Spain the last 3 weeks of September and look for work there just "on spec." I've worked in Valencia before (2003-2005) so have no illusions about finding huge salaries or stuff like that however the aim is to make about 1100-1200 a month, enough to get by on. What are the best places now to look and which are best to avoid? In the past I generally found sending out CVs in advance of going there to be a complete waste of time but how about now when I'm there? I've noticed that compared to 7 or 8 years ago a lot more schools have an online presence but is it worth bombarding them with CVs + follow up visit/phone call or is the old style pounding the pavement, visiting them face to face method the best?

Also in terms of places, I lived in Valencia, really liked the city and have a couple of contacts down there, however my flight is to Barca so I'm wondering if it's worth spending a week there job hunting before going to Valencia? That brings me on to hiring dates/course start dates. I arrive there 9 September, in the past courses started last week in September but people have been telling me recently that some places didn't start until mid-October after the 9 and 12 October holidays and puentes so what dates should I realistically expect?

A final thing, I presume my old social security and NIE numbers are still good after 6 years of non usage?

BUMP.

So there's honestly no one on the east coast that can help?

I'm also interested in questions like what is the best mobile phone provider or network to get a sim card for and which bank would give the best rates as I'd plan to transfer at least 3000 euro there to start, which one would give the best rates for things like international money transfers?
