I applied for a job at HCT 4 years ago, interviewed and was offered a contract. I turned it down. I applied again 6 months later and was immediately rejected not even getting to screening. I applied again 6 months later and again, immediately rejected. Last year, I applied again to a couple of jobs as I have two grad degrees. Immediately rejected even though I far exceeded the requirements. I emailed them to ask why and they wrote back and said I would never be hired at HCT. |

One's first thought is that it is because you turned them down previously, but then I know of people who turned down HCT offers because they didn't want to go to the location on offer... but got hired the next year at the location they wanted. So there is no hard, fast rule. Nor (if you have ME experience you know this) is there really any sense in looking for logic.
Has this happened with any other Emirates employer? If so, it would suggest that a previous employer in another Gulf country had told them something related to the security check.

You can't strain a drop of logic from the behavior of an administration (HCT) that is permanently out-to-lunch.
If you look into their eyes you see OFF-flags...their gyros have tumbled.

When you turn down a job offer, but want to keep the option of getting hired by them later, what is a good reason to give for turning them down? |

Dear Susie,
In the Middle East, a family emergency (e.g. a death in the immediate family) is usually very sympathetically received.
Just don't knock off Mom or Dad too many times .

"Family emergency" was flagged on my CV when I interviewed with ADEC in Abu Dhabi. Apparently, that excuse was given for many people who left & never came back. So, use this reason sparingly.
(I was still hired, mind. But my interviewers expressed concern.) |

Of course it is always best to use it sparingly, but abuse of this excuse has always been around. I remember working for a company where we had one employee whose father and mother died regularly over the years. He was an otherwise exemplary employee so it was accepted and chuckled about by the management.
Using family circumstances as the reason for turning down an offer is probably the best choice, but just make sure that they don't learn that you took a job in the country next door instead. That may very well affect any future offers from them. (or not... nothing is set in stone on this one... it is their needs that prevail)
