Hi everyone. I am a 22 years old British citizen who is intending to apply for English teaching positions in Saudi Arabia within the next few weeks or so. As such, I was wondering whether the more experienced individuals on the board could give an indication as to my chances with the following qualifications/experience:
- B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics.
- TEFL Certificate (weekend course).
- Some unrelated teaching experience in Economics.
Thanks for your time. |

In general, your qualifications don't meet the minimum requirements for KSA TEFL jobs for the following reasons:
- Unrelated (non-TESOL) degrees; and
- TEFL cert that's less than 120 hours (and most likely didn't involve at least 6 hours of supervised practice teaching); and
- Unrelated teaching experience.
Your chances improve if you get a CELTA or other valid TEFL certificate and some EL teaching experience under your belt. However, there's no harm in applying; some employer might consider you, but it may not be the type of working environment/conditions you'd be satisfied with. I suggest taking the time to read other posts in this forum. |
