Matt here. American citizen, college and CELTA graduate, looking for work in SE Asia. Pleasure to be talking with all of you again.

I recently ran into another paperwork requirement for overseas positions. It looks like I need apostilles of my official documents.

I searched through the boards (even googled it) to see what the process was like. Seems fairly simple, but I'm confused as to what exactly needs the apostille. I have a small list of documents that I've been required to bring by various employers.

-Passport
-Visa (work or other)
-BA degree certificate
-Official sealed college transcript
-Police Clearance Certificate

Do all of these documents need an apostille? The cost for this process seems to change depending on which state you're in, so does anyone with experience in this field know the most cost-efficient way to go about it?

The process seems simple enough. Get copies of the originals, have them notarized, then send them to the attorney general for the apostille to be attached. Can you send them all for one fee or does each document require its own payment?

It depends on WHERE in Asia you want to go.

Most (all?) countries in SE Asia do NOT need an apostille on your documents.

Korea (in EAST Asia) does. There you need the apostille on your certified true copy of your degree and your FBI background check.

Name the country and it will be easier to tell you what you need to get/do to get your visa.

Thanks, tttompatz.

That's a sign of my own ignorance, lumping S. Korea in with SE Asia. Apologies Embarassed

But yes, I was aiming for South Korea, since that's where a few winter camps seem to be held.

In any case, where I plan to go is still up in the air, so I'm doing my best to cover all my bases. I'd rather have more than I need than not enough.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out what I don't need. I've got enough time and spare change to get all this red tape cleared up now, so I'd like to cut through as much of it as I can while I have the chance.

Korea has a separate forum you can use, you'll get better answers there I would imagine (with regards to Korea anyway).
