I've been offered a job in a town called Sakarya. The person hiring told me it's in the outer orbit of Istanbul. Looked at the map and it looks pretty far from Istanbul. Does anyone know how long it would realistically take to get to Istanbul? I know there is a train that goes through Sakarya on the way to Istanbul.
Also, what is this city like? Anyone live there on here or anyone ever been there? |

Hi dfusa, it would be a good idea to have a good look at the place before committing to a job there.
I have been there a couple of times. The Provice is called Sakarya, the main city is called Adapazarı. The area is industrialised and on the fringe of the main industrial area around the Sea of Marmara. It has a reputation for being quite conservative and volatile, with many migrant workers. Local beauty spots include Lake Sapanca and the Black Sea, not far to the North. There is a train service every hour or so to and from İstanbul (Haydarpaşa), journey about two and a half hours and buses every half hour, quicker than the train.
On the journey the train line hugs the Bay of İzmit, you will see sparkling waters, historic towns like Hereke (silk carpets) alongside ships, massive factories, chimneys and petrochemical plants. Away from the sea and the factories the interior is still quite unspoilt with oak forests, fields and rivers.
