Hi,
I am looking to teach somewhere in Asia, preferably primary school age. I have a degree, a "combined" TEFL, and a years experience tutoring school age children in maths and english.
I was initially looking to move early october, and had been looking at Thailand, Korea and Taiwan. However, I am considering postponing my start date to December or January and am wondering whether anywhere will hire around this time? |

Korea - winter holiday (end of year)starts at the end of Dec. and continues till the new academic year starts on March 2. Lots of job ads in Dec/Jan with starts in late Feb.
Thailand - academic year ends in March and begins again in mid May. Slowest time of the year for job ads/starts is Dec/Jan and busy again from March to May.
Taiwan - you only have the language academies as an option and they are hiring year round.

What is a 'combined' TEFL?
Indonesia - all year
Singapore - all year
China - language schools - all year |

Ok, thanks. One thing i'm a bit confused about is if I do decide to travel first and apply later, how do I go about getting a visa. I am planning on possibly travelling in India before I start teaching. Will I need/ be able to get a visa for China/ Taiwan/ similar in India? |

Like Korea, Japan is on winter vacation in December/January, but almost no job ads during that time.
Getting a visa may be as simple as applying for it through your employer. Your biggest concern should be getting hired. I don't see how that is possible when one is traveling. You need the job first, and then you apply for the visa at the Japanese consulate wherever you are. |
