I was wondering if anybody has some info about this recruiting company. So far I know they are recruiting 20 teachers to teach post secondary students, who are orienting towards the petro chemical industry, starting this September in Jubail.
I'd appreciate any info you may have to share about this recruiting company.
Thank you |

McGill is not a company, they're a Canadian university in Montreal, Quebec. They're offering ELT positions through the School of Continuing Studies. They send lots of students and non-students to teach English in different countries every year. They're about as legit as it gets.
I haven't personally worked with them though, so I don't know what the experience is like. |

It's not because they are McGill they are angels.
They are doing the joint venture with a Saudi partner. Could be Sabic? I heard the salary was paid in Canadian dollars to a Canadian bank in Canada(UPON COMPLETING SOME SORT OF TIME CARD, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD ALL TAKE SOME TIME!!...COMPLICATED PROCEDURE) and to withdraw, employees will have to use a debit card.
I did this once before in China but I was always worried the deposit would not be made ON TIME...and then
How would I be able to resolve any $$$ problems being in Saudi but the $$$ being in Canada??
Why would they have chosen to do business like this?
I've always been paid in Saudi Arabia through Saudi Banks. At least you know at the end of the month you have your salary.

McGill is using the ARAMCO ESL curriculum. Does anybody have experience with that curriculm? Does it include all the components such as testing, lab exercises, quizzes and so forth like the Cambridge curriculum?
Another issue with the McGill recruiters is they offer no substitute for housing...take what they give or you're on your own. |

It's easy to know your home country's bank has received your salary...check their website (i.e. online banking...it's great!).
I've never enjoyed dealing with Saudi banks. My home is in the US and I've always had to wrangle with the KSA banks to ensure that I could get most of my money transferred to my US bank every month. The time I worked for a US employer in KSA which deposited my salary directly into my US bank was a great relief. If you're a Canadian, you're sitting pretty having your salary deposited in Canada.
Saudi banks were a pain in the a_ _ for me...long queues, endless forms to fill out with little guidance, and restricted business hours. I'd take direct deposit into my US bank anytime.
All I had to do was use my US ATM card to withdraw funds from ATMs in KSA. |

One McGill recruiter told me in order to process visas rapidly, they would be bringing the recruits in through Bahrain.
Considering the dangerous situation in Bahrain...and as one person said on ESL Cafe...worse than Northern Ireland in the worst of times...
might they not have chosen a safer venue for the security of their personnel?? |

Anybody been in Bahrain in, say, the last month? Is it dangerous there?

Hi,
I was there on a visa run beginning of May, just after they had the State of Emergency lifted. It looked like a total different place of what Ive seen before.
I hold a European passport and had my Embassy call ahead their colleagues in Bahrain in order to arrange aiport pickup, hotel reservation and everthing else. I did not go into town but there were police check points every 200 meters.
You may like to check Al-Jazzera, a good source of news on the ME area, your embassy or any other colleagues.
Good luck |

And what they give is a shared accommodation. You share a 2-bedroom apartment with another teacher. So they must be looking for single-status teachers.
The contract is for 9.5 months, not for a year. So you will have to look for another gig during the summer, or spend what you have saved.
Do you know if it is a business visa deal? That might be the reason why they pay in Canadian dollars. If you don't have an iqama, you cannot open a bank. So they prefer to pay into your Canadian bank rather than paying you in cash. |

FURTHERMORE ABOUT THE BUSINESS VISA...which McGill plans to get in BAHRAIN...
The inexperience of a new business venture in the KSA, McGill, does not understand the
of bringing teachers in the Kingdom on a BUSINESS/WORK VISA or a VISIT/BUSINESS VISA valid only for 90 days...according to the Saudi Labour Law.
PLUS
McGill fails to inform their teachers that every month they will have to go in and out of Saudi Arabia since the 3 month BUSINESS VISA has a 1 month Iqama limit...or in other words they can only stay in the Kingdom for no longer than a month.
As a former Director in the KSA I was faced with this nagging problem of arranging transport during the weekends for teachers to do their VISA RUNS to Bahrain. STAFF were not happy because it ate up their personal weekend relax time.
It became a nightmare! |

It's illegal but there are many government institutions that bring in their employees on business visas, for example the KAUST.
I heard the location is in the Eastern Province, in Jubail. Do you know how much they are offering? $$$ |

The contract is for 9.5 months.
It is not clear if the salary they offer is divided by 9.5 months or if it is divided by 12 months. If it is the latter, teachers would only get 9.5/12 of the salary they qoute.
McGill recruiters are not clear about this...and when I asked them about S A L A R Y they all of a sudden became tight lipped! |

They are recruiting for the Royal Commission. Why don't you apply to Jubail University College as a direct hire? |

Jubail is a dump I have lived there. Hotel Shark for a coffee, International House for a Chinky, Fanateer Mall and that's it. I didn't speak to a woman the whole time I was there. Oh, except in Bahrain $$$$$$$$
All the expats just brewed and got trashed.
Don't do it. |
