|

Hi,
I wanted to enquire about working with a temporary business visa. I got offered a position at PNU through Adwaa and to get my 6month old daughter to travel with me their going to issue myself and my daughter a temporary business visa. Are you allowed to work with this and would it mean that I would have to leave the country every three months? Also does anyone know if this would cause problems for my daughter and whether I'd be able to get a maid or register my daughter at a nursery on a temporary business visa?
Regards,
Princessali

Working under a business visa is illegal. You cannot open a bank account in Saudi, let alone registering your son at a school. |

BTW... you can easily edit your by clicking on the "edit" button in the upper right corner of each of your posts. A life saver for for fixing goofs...
I do believe that the two of you will have to make regular visa runs. And you will, of course, be working illegally.

Well that's really frustrating! What visa would you need to go out there with your child with you apart from the business visa or the visit visa?
Also can't you just use a normal Halifax or HSBC account? Why do you have to open a Saudi account?
@VS thanks I didn't see the edit option. Also what do you mean 'regular visa runs'? |

The people that I have known that were working on one of these visas had to fly to Bahrain every three months for a day or two or three to renew the visa.

That doesn't sound too bad...extra holidays! Does it have to be Bahrain? Can it be Oman or the UAE? Also who pays, the teachers or the employer? |

Dear Princessali,
You would be going to Bahrain every 30 days, it all depends on the business visa you have. Trust me it is not all that fun. Your company will take you to the border of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain just to get a Saudi exit stamp and a re-entry stamp on your passport in order to renew your business visa. This process can take almost a whole day, and it is normally done on a weekend. So you probably won't be getting any extra holidays.
Now it does not have to be Bahrain. You can always leave the country at your own expense and go to Oman or UAE, and you will get the re-entry stamp on your passport when you come back to Saudi. The problem with this option is that you will be paying for these trips. Your employer will prefer to take you to Bahrain because it is closer and they would easily be able to provide you with transportation to get the job done.
Hope that helps |

Okay every 30 days sounds a bit bad. I thought it was every three months.
Is it possible to change the business visa to a work visa once your there? |

That's the $64 billion question (what can I say-inflation?).
If you do a search and read the numerous posts regarding this issue, you might come to the conclusion that, if it's possible at all, it ain't easy.

I think all of this depends on your employer. I do know of employers that only require a visa run every 3 months. It is only at their expense to go to Bahrain... for as short a period as possible... not to provide anyone with a holiday.
But I don't believe that a business visa can be changed into a proper work visa without you leaving the country... usually back to your home country (?) to complete all the proper steps that should have been done before you went in the first place.

I feel for you. I almost fall into that trap. Adwaa is new company or atleast new to me and i don't think I trust everything the recruiter told me.
Bottom line is I'm willing to take chance with location or few hundred dollars, but not with the visa. I need to get work visa or there is no deal.
You can't open up an account , rent a car or rent a house. What are you gonna do with your salary without bank account(It creates security hazard.) The other thing is you better be prepared with the 99% possibility of you finishing the year without getting the work visa. Its very hard to convert business to work inside Saudi and Adwaa guy knows this which is why i stop believing him.
I understand your child is young and you just need good baby sitter/nursery, but be prepared for year with business visa. |

I kinda have a feeling that it will stay as a business visa. Also, I'll be opening an international bank account with HSBC for Saudi, so hopefully that shouldn't be a problem. My friend was on a visit visa and she got paid in her normal HSBC current account. She told me I don't even need to open an account out there.
I'm only accepting Adwaa's offer as all the other employers want me to wait three months before I can bring my daughter over and Adwaa will bring my daughter over at the same time. I really can't leave her behind. She's only 6months old! Also I checked with a friend who works for a different recruitment agency and she said I'd only go to the boarder every three months. It's not ideal, but that's the best I can find.
Thanks everyone for the info and advise. Is there anything else I need to know before I go?

I would be very very concerned and leery of putting myself into the clutches of a borderline employer who has you teaching on a illegal visa... when the situation includes a 6 month old child.
