Dear John,

Smoke can be a metaphor for something most pleasurable.

But I won't go into any graphic detail.

Dear Captain_Fil,

Given your (likely) meaning, more a euphemism than a metaphor, methinks.

Very Happy

John

Gentlemen, forgive me, but this is straying weirdly into get-a-room territory.... Embarassed

Got to agree with Spiral78 here. This was supposed to be a topic about the escalating price of cigarettes...not an outlet for a dirty old man to reveal his fantasies; however tame and uninteresting those fantasies might be proving to be.

Anyway, I'm on the Golden Virginia roll-ups these days...strong enough without being overpowering, a smooth taste, and only 3.89 for 12.5grams to boot.

Dear eutobound,

I think I'm probably the only dirty OLD man here; I believe Captain_Fil is a dirty young (or at least youngish) man. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Dear John,

You're right. I am a dirty young man. Mr. Green

When you were a Marine in Vietnam, I was just a child in elementary school.

CF

20 Marlboro are 1.50 in China. Chinese cigarettes can be as low 50p and as high as 10 for 20.

I liked Baisha when I was there, about 50p usually. The Marlboros always tasted a bit funny to me, though I may have been buying fake ones for all I know.

HongHe 88's are similar to marlboro, currently 8 RMB (= $1.25) per pack.
made in the genuine virginia style, according to the label.

for the cheap charlies, there are other brands running 3-5 RMB per pack.

and for the destitute ESL teachers, there's always the option of
hanging out at weddings for the free cigarettes.

When I went to see the Terracotta Army last year, I ran out of cigarettes and asked an elderly Chinese chap if he had one to spare. He pulled out a second pack from his jacket pocket and gave me the whole lot. So maybe tipsy old folk at weddings will be even more generous! Minds due, that was the October national holiday, so maybe he was already in party mood.
