Hi everyone,

I've just moved to HCMC with my partner. She has a job at an international school (she was interviewed before we left Australia), and as yet, I'm not working.

I have a bachelor's degree, plus a TESOL certificate.

Here's my question: one of the reasons for moving over here was the travel aspect. My partner gets school holidays off, so we have plans to use that time to travel. Unfortunately, I've not been too successful in terms of finding employment where I can get school holidays off as well.

Money is really not a huge issue, as we can both live comfortably on her salary, but I'd love to find a teaching job that allows that sort of travel time.

Does anyone have any experience with that sort of work? Or know any places that would suit me? Or are my expectations way off the mark?

I have considered tutoring, which could be a fallback plan, but I'd ideally love some classroom experience.

Thanks in advance.

You're extremely unlikely to find a school that will be amenable to that. Largely due to the fact that centres have holiday programs, so while your partner is on vacation, you'll be expected to teach extra classes.

However, given the financial security you'll have thanks to your partner's job, you do have the option of just taking a job and then telling them that you'll be taking the vacations. They can then deal with that news as they please. Just make sure you do this on or just after pay-day, when you have the cash in your possession.

There's a slim chance that they'll rehire you, or you can just get new work after the vacation. This tactic wouldn't really work for any of the bigger names, only the smaller centres.
