If I'm renting an apartment for one month and pay in cash (as I assume I must), do I need to get some kind of contract? Or is a key and written receipt sufficient?
Thanks,

Very good q!
The last time I rented here there I noticed that conditions were a bit different here to back in Europe
Firstly, when you pay the landlord, you are only paying for the four walls and any bills incurred, eg plumber, are your responsibility
There was also something about the length of contract you signed up for ie if you sign up for a year, you can't leave before that year is up without paying a penalty
As is the case everywhere, there are good and bad landlords but if you insist on a contract (which you will need to register with the local muhtar anyway and you can then use the muhtar's form as proof of residence with yabanci polis), it would probably be a good idea to go round the property with the landlord, make a note of anything broken etc and make sure he signs your copy of the list |
