Hey, all, I'll be moving to Beijing next month and need to find an apartment. Any suggestions where I should start my search online? Thanks!

I rented a room from a Chinese guy in Beijing while I looked for a school. He has moved near Shuangqiao station, line 1, east side (Chaoyang).

The rent is low, and you can also check www.thebeijinger.com for other places.

Private message if you are interested in the Chaoyang apartment.

On that topic, what would be considered an average rent for a furnished, one bedroom apartment in Beijing?

It's a big place. I'd imagine there could be a bit of disparity from area to area.

Within subway access, it's going to be high (slightly lower as you go out from the center). If you want to save money, I suggest you share an apartment and rent just a room. That usually costs you 2,000/month to start with.
