I don't know about you old timers here but I think that a lot of the topics have been discussed before.

Funnily enough, I have visited several of the Turkish examples. One of my favourites was near Selime in the Ilhara valley,in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night in the middle of a field near a small cafe with live music and flowing raki. I was the only woman around. The men's toilet, although just as outdoors and bare bones as the ladies, at least had a smooth, marked path leading to it, a light, and a closing door. When I stumbled over the rocks and potholes through the field to reach the rickety, stinky outhouse sans porte, sans lumiere, I nearly fell into the hole, which took up most of the floorspace.

Another thing worthy of note: if sqatties a la turca are technically more hygienic and easier to keep clean (constant water washing everything, no bums touching anything), then why do the boys loos at the school reek? I feel vomitously ill when I pass by them, and yet the girls ones are fine.

Boys, what do you do in there??? Shocked
